I think if a player goes to Japan or Korea we should be able to take their salaries off our books. Since player that go to Japan/Korea do not officially retire. The same procedure steps would be followed as a retirement (needing to post 2 news releases in the trades bulletin board, etc.)...
Thoughts?

I had a guy take a year off and was required to carry his salary so I vote to keep on your roster. It is no different then a guy getting injured or being demoted to triple a.

Well I'm sorry for what that guy did to you... However I think it is different. Because some guys are going after more money. But I look at this as being an option for teams. You can release the guy or keep him. If you release him and he comes back then he is in the FA pool.

if it's a 1st-6th player then you can just unprotect them. i have done that with a few people. if it's a free agent contract, then i think you should be stuck with it even if they go abroad. players are either retired or not. i am sure we all probably have contracts on our rosters that we wish we could get rid of, but just like IRL, those contracts are guaranteed unless they retire (or even for 25 years afterwards if it's Bobby Bonilla!) so in summary i agree with justinbunko

OK but in "real life" if you have a contract with a player who decides to split to Japan you are not going to pay him AND have the Japanese team pay him as well. Or are we going to start counting Japan stats towards are league

The rules of this league originated from a league where you continue to pay a guaranteed contract regardless of the circumstances, unless the player officially retires from baseball.
Whilst there is no reason why we would necessarily need to follow that model, some complications would arise from changing the ruling. What happens if the player returns from the overseas league whilst his original contract would still be running? Which leagues would be included for contract cancellations - would US Independent leagues count? What about players who take a sabbatical but do not retire?
If answers to these questions can be agreed, and there some support (say 3 or more league members) who feel strongly about this then (unless either of the other admins disagrees) we can look at coming up with a solid proposal and setting it to a league vote.

If the player returns just like if a player unretires, they would go back into the FA pool to be bid on as if they didn't have a contract.
