I believe that if the season is under way and you discover a free agent to be added to the free agent list then you should be entitled to a 'finders fee' in the way of a discount. I would favour 30% since these are likely to be low-value FAs (and therefore small discounts).
Something along the lines of: When in-season free agency is open any unowned player eligible to be a free agent should be identified to one of the admins so that the player can be added to the in-season free agent auction list. The auction will be open for bidding immediately once they are added. A 30% discount 'finders fee' will be granted to the team who identified the unowned player if auction bidding begins less than 48 hours after they are added to the in-season free agent group.
Please let me know if anybody agrees with this proposal - if two others post support then we'll put this to vote at the end of the season.

I'm not really understanding the "48 hour window". Why would bidding ever be delayed that much?

Seems to be saying that the finder has 48 hours to place a bid to get the discount, correct?

Dude, free agent finds shouldn't get any more than a 10% discount. You're doing it for the game. You don't "find" free agents to get a 30% discount, you find them because they aren't owned.

Well like he said most of these will be less than 1.0, so a 10% discount would basically be useless. So either no discount or 30% is probably the case here.

I'd vote no discount.

I'm not really understanding the "48 hour window". Why would bidding ever be delayed that much? It is basically to avoid one owner going through a large number of free agents on the day that in-season free agency opens and suggesting that they all need to be added to the free agent list. Without a limit he'd then retain a discount on all of those free agents for the duration of the season, motivated by the hope that one or two of them strike good as the season wears on.

I agree to some extent, but I think a modest change along these lines might help encourage owners to be a bit more active, rather than just relying on other people to do the legwork. I think I would be frustrated if I had invested the time to find an unowned free agent, just to see somebody else (who had no idea the player was even out there) outbid me once they are added to FA and reap the rewards of my labour. Whilst 30% seems like a lot, 30% of not very much is also not very much. In practice this is just a $0.1 or $0.2 saving - more importantly I think it gives a minor edge to the discovering team to help them in the bidding for the player they discovered. An edge I think is deserved as they have contributed to the league by finding the player in the first place.

this sounds like a good proposal to me i assume this would only apply to "in season" free agents rather than the "official" free agency period?

It seemed kinda silly at first but after reading this, I like the suggestion.

Fantasy Baseball is already a game where often the most active owner wins. I know this league is a little different because there is less waiver wire work than a standard league but aren't we just making it more like that?
I get it wont be many players and often they won't be very good but I don't know if I like the idea that we should tilt the game more to the side of those with extra time on their hands. Saying that I do understand the premise of the suggestion but im just not convinced I like it.

It's a minor issue that won't have much impact on the league, but I think it warrants a vote.

Sounds like there's support for each side - we'll have a vote at season's end.
