I posted the same bid twice in order to include his name. Does that start the 24 hour timer over or does it go off of the original post that didn't include his name? I'm asking because a bid was placed more than 24 hours after my initial bid, but not after the bid to correct the format.

The bid without the player name is corrected/superceded by the corrected bid with the player name, so the 24hr window would run from that time.

So the rule states that free agent bids should be made in the fomat with player name etc. Does that mean that any bid not made in that format is invalid? If thats the case, should the rule be amended to change the word should to must?

Yes any bid not in the correct format or in violation of any of the bidding rules is invalid. We can change the wording to make that more accurate.

no big deal, i just interpreted that rule when I first read it as a recommendation rather than a requirement
