8.1 Number of Draft Picks
Each team is entitled to a maximum of 7 picks - 1 per round.
8.2 Trading of Draft Picks
Draft picks may not be traded at any time.
However, drafted players are eligible to be traded immediately (and there is no rule to stop pre-planned drafting and/or pre-arranged trades).
8.3 Draft Order
The first ten draft positions of the first round will be drawn at random from the teams finishing 6th-15th in the standings from the previous season. The remaining five draft positions of the first round will be drawn at random from the teams finishing 1st-5th in the standings from the previous season. The order of all subsequent rounds will be the reverse of the previous round (commonly referred to as snake format).
8.4 Eligible Players
Players eligible to be drafted are:
1) Any player drafted and signed in the "real life" Amateur Draft of the previous season.
2) Any player signed to a Major League franchise as an International Free Agent in the period between the start of the last league Amateur Draft and the start of the current league Amateur Draft who has not been placed into a completed or pending Free Agent group by the Admins
8.5 Draft Commencement
The start of the Amateur Draft (and a confirmation of the draft order) will be communicated to the league by the Admins.
8.6.1 Draft Pick Window
In the first round each team will have 12 hours to make a selection. In all other rounds each team will have 8 hours to make a selection.
8.6.2 Draft Pick Window Expiry
If a team does not make a selection in their allotted window then the following team(s) may draft ahead of them.
8.6.3 Making a Draft Pick after Window Expiry
If a team has missed one or more draft picks, but still wishes to make selections, they may at any time make as many picks as they have missed (as long as the Amateur Draft is still open).
8.6.4 Multiple Missed Draft Picks
If a team fails to record a draft pick selection with two successive picks then future draft windows for that team will be automatically skipped until they have selected or passed all unfulfilled picks.
8.7.1 Optional Passing of Draft Picks
The selection of a draft pick is optional. Any team may opt to 'pass' their pick, whereupon the next team is on the clock.
8.7.2 Effect of Passing Draft Pick on later rounds
To assist with the continuation of the draft, passing a pick will automatically pass all subsequent picks.
8.7.3 Making a Draft Pick after Passed Pick
If a team later wishes to make a selection for a pick that they have previously passed then they may at any time make as many picks as they have passed (as long as the Amateur Draft is still open).
8.8.1 Drafting Players from other (IRL) Teams
Players selected in the draft that are not property of either of your IRL teams will be automatically assumed to be protected. Teams must ensure that they already have cap space available ($0.3 per pick) before making a draft selection, and adjust their roster accordingly.
8.8.2 Drafting Players from your (IRL) Teams
Players selected in the draft that are property of one of your IRL teams will be automatically assumed to be protected unless the drafting team does not have cap space to accommodate them. In this instance the player may still be drafted but will be assumed to be unprotected and will, by definition, consume no cap. However, (as for all unprotected prospects) rights to a player will be lost if they are left unprotected and subsequently traded IRL.
8.9 Draft Completion
If missed draft picks remain outstanding after the last pick of the last round, the Amateur Draft will close 48 hours after the last pick of the last round (or the expiry of that pick window if no selection has been made). In this event the time of the Draft Completion will be confirmed by one of the Admins.
8.10 Undrafted Players
The rights to any players eligible to be drafted but remaining undrafted upon completion of our draft revert automatically to the team by which they were drafted IRL.
They may be protected (at a salary of $0.3 each) or left unprotected as each owner sees fit.
