Rangers Trade:
2B/SS/RF Ben Zobrist, TBR, 2015, 9.3 SS Addison Russell, OAK, 1st, 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=russel001add RHP Luke Jackson, TEX, 1st, 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=jackso001luk RHP Akeem Bostick, TEX, 1st, 0.3 (was unprotected) www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=bostic000ake
Orioles Trade:
SP Dan Straily, OAK, 2nd, 0.5 DH Victor Martinez, DET, 2015, 5.8 2B Neil Walker, PIT, 5th, 1.0 SP Trevor Cahill, ARZ, 6th, 1.0 LHP Marco Gonzales, STL, 1st, 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gonzal013mar
Rangers Cap -1.3 Orioles Cap +1.6
Trade simultaneously adds big league talent (4 big leaguers for 1) while saving me cap space as well for in season maneuverability. Victor and Walker cost me the versatility of Zobrist, but with both in my lineup, I should get more total production than Zobrist alone, plus add to the depth on my roster. Straily is just a guy I like, I think he's still got upside and should be a solid SP with 5 years control. Cahill is mostly salary balancing, and Gonzales was STL's first round pick and helps balance some of the big upside I dealt away in Russell and the Texas prospects. Overall, I hate losing Russell, but he's the price I paid to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish.

I of sound mind and body agree to this trade. Here's why:
Zobrist is a declining bat but his versatility in the face of injuries, injuries, and (um) injuries is very intriguing. I'm very thin in MI. One injury there and I am in trouble. Zobrist is not the power/RBI threat he once was but again I still think he is a top 50 overall player.
Addison Russell - He is the whole reason I started this trade talk to begin with. Love his bat and think he will be up with the MLB club by 2015 (if not sooner). He is a consensus top 10 prospect who is putting up double digit HRs and SB numbers along with an OPS of over 800. A SS that can possibly hit 15+ HRs, steal 15+ bases, and get OBP at a .350+ clip? Um, yes please! I think his bat will keep getting better considering he has been pushed from Class A in 2013 to AAA within a year. But I honestly don't care! He's an Oakland A's (I happen to like that team just a little)
Luke Jackson and Akeem Bostick give me two extra scratch off lottery tickets to possibly balance out this deal. Akeem Bostick the 2nd Rd pick of the Rangers in 2013. He is 6ft 5" and has a fastball that can run up to 95mph. He needs to improve he secondary pitches but I think he is gifted enough athlete to pay off in a few years. Luke Jackson is on the fast track, and I think he could see the majors by 2015. He has stuff that could put him as a #3 starter and if he can get his command of his off speed pitches he might be a great pick up.
As for what I'm trading away...
Dan Straily... (Darnit! I'm giving up an A's to get an A's) But honestly I've never been high on him because I think he is just average. He kills me as a fan. He will show 2 or 3 starts where he is brilliant and then come back to Earth and go for a 3-4 starts where he is average to bad. I don't think he becomes better then a #4 with the A's (till Beane trades him away of course)
Marco Gonzales... This absolutely killed me, a control pitcher! I love those. Also St Louis never EVER gets draft picks wrong. There recent track record says he will be a stud. BUT, I have a ton of SP, and frankly can afford to give up Straily and Gonzales to get Russell.
Victor Martinez is in the deal for Zobrist. Neil Walker and Cahill are there for the salaries and won't lose any sleep losing either of those guys.
My first trade is in the books. I appreciate all the amazing work Scott did. He was really creative. Pleasure working with you!

Yeah I didn't count those. I didn't think Mark Ellis for Yu Darvish was a serious offer. I figured alcohol was to blame.

Haha!!! Come on even drunk I would never make that offer. Mark Ellis used to be an A's, so I like him too much.
