Atlanta Trades:
Vinnie Pestano- RP, 4th, 1.0
Jon Lester- SP, 2015, 6.0
Orioles Trade:
Melky Cabrera - OF, 2015, 6.0
Trevor Bauer - SP, 1st, $0.3
Atlanta Cap +0.7
Orioles Cap -0.7
I took over an amazing team from Ron. He did an amazing job. However he did leave me with two guys I cannot stand: Melky Cabrera and Trevor Bauer.
Trevor Bauer - A frustrating former top prospect who is uncoachable. His former catcher in Arizona hates him. He has his own warm up/long toss regimine and refuses to change it even though multiple teams have told him it is putting unnecessary wear and tear on his arm. He is the classic "too smart for his own good" young guy who refuses to listen to veterans and because of that will have to either keep failing until he figures out that he needs to ask for help or find a job selling cars. But my biggest issue, if you read my application to the league, I hate pitchers that walk batters. Bauer has serious control issues and they don't seem to be getting any better (see: Coachability/Jerk). So, I'm sad to see his talent leave my team but I don't think he is going to get things figured out for a while (if ever).
Melky Cabrera - PEDs, jerk, seriously I strongly dislike the guy... I don't care... It irrational but the guy is a cancer and if he hits 60 HRs (he won't unless he finds better PEDs) this year I won't care because at least he isn't on my team.
This trade gets rids me of both guys...
I get Vinnie Pestano who used to be an elite set-up man until an injury derailed his season last year. He got injured during the World Baseball Classic in 2013. He rushed back, and in doing so he compensated on his pitch mechanics getting rid of a hitch/unorthodox delivery that added some life to his ball. This made his ball flatten out and easier to hit. He got sent down, he rested up, and I think he has figured things out. He made the big league roster. Although he isn't in the late innings mix at the moment I think he can regain his old job.
Jon Lester - Opening Day starter for the Red Sox is going to be motivated this year with a contract on the line. He had a 15-8 record and a 3.75 ERA with a amazing WHIP of 1.29. I think his contract is high but he is a Top 40 pitcher who's team is going to help him with run support even when he doesn't have his best stuff (something Oakland A's pitchers wish they could say).
So I get rid of two guys I hate, gain a valuable SP for 2 years, and a possible valuable source for Holds for 2 years.
Eric, thanks for the fun and easy trade talks! Even though we had to do this trade twice!
