A trade has been agreed between the Oakland Diamondbacks and the Philadelphia Twins:
The Twins receive:
Jedd Gyorko (2B) 2nd $0.5 Nick Franklin (2B) 2nd $0.5 Chris Carter (1B) 3rd $1.0 Yasmani Grandal (1B) 3rd $1.0 Jerry Blevins (RP) 6th $1.0 Ryan Ludwick (OF) 2014 $1.0
Total: $5.0
The Diamondbacks receive:
Brian Dozier (2B) 3rd $1.0 Phil Hughes (SP) 2014+ $2.0 Mark Buehrle (SP) 2014 $1.7
Total: $4.7
Change is +$0.3 for the Twins and -$0.3 for the Diamondbacks
I am making this trade for a few reasons:
Dozier for Gyorko is an upgrade for me at 2nd for no change in cost Buehrle wont help me this year and Im not worried about trying to retain him Hughes wont help me this year and I probably still wont be in a challenging position next year so he wont help then either I am more than happy to receive Grandal and Franklin who should be contributors for me in the coming years. I need a first baseman so I will take Carter in the hope he gets a more full time job to mash some home runs The other two are essentially salary dumps which Im happy to take for the other 4 players I am getting

"Dozier for Gyorko is an upgrade for me at 2nd for no change in cost"
I assume by upgrade you mean you believe Gyorko will be an upgrade in the future? He certainly is not an upgrade in the present.

Accept. (I believe Gyorko is a 2nd)
I'm really high on Gyorko but I'm currently getting zero production at 2B. So, I was looking for help in Avg and Steals at 2B. I couldn't get the guy I wanted, so I basically had to choose between Avg/Steals. After realizing Avg is kind of a crapshoot and difficult to project I decided to target Steals. While Dozier is likely to be a slight hit in Avg, I'm hopeful he can add 10+ Steals ROS. He should also be a solid source of Runs.
After looking at the Twins roster, I decided to expand the deal to include Hughes and Buehrle. I know they are both due to regress but the Indians and Giants are nipping at my heels in the Wins cat. Health permitting, they give me 25-30 extra chances at a Win.
Again, I really do like Gyorko, a lot. I believe he has a few top 5 (2B) seasons in him. However, when you're going for it all, you have to make sacrifices.
Appreciate the easy negotiations. Thanks Twins.

On paper this could look uneven - the Twins are selling off an early-ish arb eligible 2B who is currently top 3 on the ESPN player rater, and short contract pitchers who are performing WAY above expectations, whilst receiving four guys in return all hitting under .200. However, I can imagine that the value of each of the players being traded from the Twins may never be higher, and a lot of arbitration years are coming back.
If Gyorko turns it around and performs as he was expected to just a couple of months ago then I can see this making sense for the Twins, with any fantasy-relevance from Franklin, Carter or Grandal being a bonus.
