Giants trade:
3B David Wright 2016 $10.5
2B Rob Refsnyder (Yankees) (1st) $0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=refsny000rob
LHP Sean Nolin (A's) (1st) $0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=nolin-001sea
RHP Victor Sanchez (Mariners) (1st) $0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=sanche006vic
RHP Luis Heredia (Pirates) (1st) $0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=heredi002lui
Orioles trade:
2B/OF Ben Zobrist 2015 $9.3
Giants 2015 salaries: -$2.4m
Orioles 2015 salaries: +$2.4m
this is pretty much a salary dump for me. i get $2.4m of additional space this year and then $11m+ in 2016. I am losing some prospects but no-one of any great potential (IMO).
Wright is still a decent player but clearly not worth his big salary. i feel that I can invest those funds much better elsewhere.
Refsnyder and Nolin will compete for ML starting jobs in spring training but I think both of them are pretty low ceiling guys and I have other decent infield and SP prospects
Sanchez was a top prospect but he seems to have crashed and burned somewhat in the last couple of years so not bothered about losing him.
Heredia is a mediocre prospect as far as I'm concerned (not in the Pirates top 10) so again, not too worried about losing him
I don't really want Zobrist but he has position flexibility and it's only for one year.
thanks for the negotiations JP, we got there in the end after about 20 proposals and counter-proposals!
