I make this deal for 2 primary reasons -- one, I've long wanted Peralta. He's gotten better every year, and in watching him as much as I have, I think he's going to continue to improve. He's cheap (for now) and controlled for 4 years. Secondly, this improves my cap flexibility, both now (gaining 1.9 in cap), and by shifting when contracts come off my books (Holliday's 6.5 is for this year and next, Granderson will come off after this year). Granderson is a better asset now that our league is OBP (walked 74 times last year), so if he can give me a .320-.330 OBP with 20+ homers, I'd be content with that for a year. I'm just taking a shot with Collins, some big league power potential and he's already made it to the highest level. I have no idea who Tanaka was, he balanced the salaries a little more for Detroit.
I'll miss Holliday's contributions to my OBP, he's still a quality player even if his power and speed have declined. But overall I think the deal fits what I'm trying to do. Thanks fore the easy talks Detroit.

I have a rotation with several arms now that I have Price, so I considered Peralta expendable, but the main reason for this trade is my lack of a LF. In this deal I get two guys eligible, at reasonable cost.
Viciedo could become a very valuable player if he gets the ABs, but he's still only 25.
