First of all, I never intended on trading most of the specs that are in this deal. I was planning on keeping them for any potential, deadline deals. Having said that, some elite players became available on the trade block. Naturally, I started to explore my options. I still didn't intend on "selling the farm", but I feel like this deal plugs the remaining holes on our roster. My co-gm and I, agreed that we needed to add another SP, RP, and MI. That's exactly what we're receiving in this deal. Strasburg does come with an extensive injury history, but if healthy, he could lead the league in K's with elite peripherals. Castro basically did a face plant last year. Some believe because the Cubs asked him to change his approach, it lead to him taking too many pitches. He was also dealing with legal issues. So, I think he's a great bounce back candidate. Possibly getting back to being a top 10-12 SS. Axford was mostly terrible over the last two seasons. After learning that he was tipping his pitches he made adjustments and was lights out over the 2nd half of last year. He's a little shaky at this point, but he's in line for handshakes.
As far as the specs, I like all of them to varying degrees. However, none of them will help me this season, and I've been making all my moves to make the best team for 2014. With the 2nd pick in the amateur draft, I'm confident that I will be able to re-stock the farm.
Thanks for the trade, Brewers. Good luck with the rebuild, it will be fun to watch.
