Rangers Trade: 1B/RF/LF Allen Craig, 4th, 2.5 Angels Trade: 2B Kolten Wong, 1st, 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wongko01.shtmlSP Rick Porcello, 6th, 1.0 3B Eric Chavez, 2014, 0.3 SP John Lamb, 1st, 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lamb--003johRangers -0.6 Angels +0.6 I was really struggling to find RBI's at times last season, and this trade does a great deal to give me some more production. If Craig can stay healthy, I think he can give a big bump to my offense this year, and is controllable for multiple seasons. Porcello and Chavez were likely to get buried under my roster depth and not really contribute this season, which limited their value to me, so I was willing to part with them, and Lamb was a fringe prospect who's a wild card at this point. Wong is the focal point of this trade, but I have a ton of MI depth, and his immediate playing time is in question, so I'm willing to let him go as well. Thanks for the easy talks Rangers.

Agreed. For me it was trading from a point of strength (led the league in AVG/RBI last year, Craig's 2 big categories) to acquire needed depth, particularly in the middle IF. I also need some more speed, and I think Wong can eventually be a 10 HR/20 SB guy with solid averages (and 6 years control). I felt I needed at least one more starting pitcher, and Porcello gives that to me. He's just a guy I have a gut feel about having a mini breakout with Detroit's improved infield defense. Chavez is just depth (who hit 25 HR in part time work the last 2 years), and Lamb was a toss-in.
I'm not always a fan of trading the best guy in a deal, but I needed depth, and some salary relief, which this gave me. With my last 2 trades, I now have enough room to make some draft picks.
