We dont currently have a rule to address this, so i was hoping ti get a vote on it. Ryan Dempster who is under contract with the Red Sox, has decided to not pitch this year. In Mlb, the Red Sox do not have to pay his salary, and he isnt counted against the salary cap. As it stands now, i would still be on the hook for his salary. He hasnt out right retired, but he is not pitching. Can we come up with a decision as to what to do in this case.

Turbanator, bigfly and I have discussed this, and we're all agreed that the current rules should remain. Players and their salaries can and should only be removed from rosters when a player officially retires. It is unfortunate when players leave baseball - whether it be a leave of absense, drugs suspensions, injuries, signing overseas or whatever - but the logistics of managing and tracking such circumstances are a variable and difficulty which we agree are best avoided.
