Is this a creative essay... I hope so...
1. Your Age (Please be 18 or older to join this league)?
I'm old enough to have graduated high school in the 90's and know that Zach Morris will always have one monstrously large cell phone.
2. Your Location?
Austin, TX
3. Your favorite MLB team?
Oakland A's. But I love fantasy baseball and love the stats so I don't really care about team affiliation for fantasy. I just want to play, trade, and talk a little trash.
4. How did you find this league?
Fake Teams message board
5. Do you have and what are your: YIM? AIM? EMAIL?
sbasbol@yahoo.com (I mean I know I'm old but I thought everyone stopped using AIM after college)
Not as Quick Questions...
1. What experience do you have playing fantasy baseball?
My first draft pick was Fernando Tatis if that gives you any idea. I have never missed a season since 1999. But I never play in more then 2 leagues because I prefer to be completely immersed in the league and be as active as possible. I've played multiple formats H2H and Rotisserie. However always looking forward to learn something new.
2. How often are you available online to be contacted by your fellow owners in this league (trade talk and such)?
I'm always online in some capacity either by cell or on my computer. So unless its "family time" bring the trade talk and the "such"...
3. What kind of team would you be willing to take over? (The options could include: A team with a chance to compete this year, a team with a chance to compete in the near future, a team that needs alot of rebuilding/owner work)
I'm willing to take over anything you got.
Longer Answers...
1. We play in a total franchise league (Read the rules in the rules section to get an idea of how we play)... What would be your general game plan while running a team in this league?
I love building from the amatuer draft. But I'm a gambling man so I also don't mind looking at players who might be coming off a injury but are a year removed from a stellar season. Power pitchers are typically not my favorite especially if they have a odd delivery or some type of hitch in their mechanics that can lead to injury. So I try to find guys that have always shown control and secondary offerings. Middle infielders are hard to find so just getting one above average guy there long term is great. 1B is pretty deep these days but can't settle for less then 20 HRs at that position unless I'm getting Votto type production when it comes to OBP or other stats. (I can keep going on but not sure if this will bite me in the behind later when I actually compete against you guys)...
2. This is a league with 15 teams in it, and as such it can be expected that there will be a rather large number of teams that will not contend every season. Would you be ok with building for the future? Do you need to always be in competition in order to remain interested in the league?
Are you kidding? I love building for the future ALMOST (that is almost) as much as I like contending. Because that means TRADES. I love trades and the art of creating the deal. Finding a way to meet someone's needs today and also finding what players you can add that can be part of your winning franchise over the next few years. This allows me to delve deep into a minor league system (which I love doing) and find out what guys did in the past before I pull the trigger. Winning is not the only thing. Besides it gives me more time to talk trash.
3. Any other information you think we as a league should know in order to best determine your eligibility?
I was actually at Oakland Coliseum when the A's won their 20th game in a row (featured in the movie "Moneyball"). Winning this league at some point will be my second greatest baseball moment...
4. Please post some online history (this is a security measure to ensure that there are no duplicate owners). Examples : your Facebook page, your twitter account, any other leagues you were in... Urls are fine here. If you prefer to keep this information private please send one of the Admins a message with these details.
