So the proposal is that if your real life team signs an IFA then you get a 20% discount in their initial free agency bidding?
Is that not giving an advantage for the rich teams (Dodgers, Yankees)?

If anything this not having this in the rules is soing a diservice to the other non-rich teams in helping them retain IFAs their IRL teams sign.
I'm having a hard time deciphering what you are trying to say here, can you explain?

It's just too much of a crapshoot to give a discount. Look at Tanaka you already get him for a decent price, because no one is going to go crazy for guys that have a bunch of potential but may not be great. Plus you aren't required to give the long term contract that the big league clubs usually do. $5 mil for Tanaka and 3 years is a crazy good price, if we had the discount almost for sure it just would have been the Yankees outbidding everyone to get him.

Not really what I want is consistency in the rule for hometown discount. I don't have any money to sign a IFA any ways.

It's not an inconsistency. International free agents are a separate category. That is why they don't fall under the same rules. It's called the hometown discount for a reason, it's a discount you get on players that become free agents that were on your roster. International guys aren't on a roster, so not under the same rule.

Yeah, JP, we didn't have a hometown discount during the very first free agency period for any players.

ok ok fine its not a inconsistency... bad choice of words... I'll drop it. But I think we are being myopic in our use of the term hometown discount and its probable application across all league business. Especially when the initial rationale was to limit an overt advantage by big market teams that has not materialized. I literally have no idea what this comment means. In this league, hometown advantage is a discount that a player gives to a team with which he is playing when his contract expires. When the league began there was no discount for players who played for one of your teams in real life in the initial auction. Each player was equally available to every team. It is my personal belief that IFAs (old enough for free agency) should also be equally available to every team. However, we are a democracy (mostly ), and if there is a seconder for this proposal then I am more than happy to run a vote.

Oh my goodness... I read the rules wrong! I'm so sorry! All this time I thought the deal was that a FA resigned was at a 20% discount and a FA who signed with (resigned obviously that is such a key part) their real life team was a discount of 30%.
In other words in my mind I thought if Player X who played for BAL in real life but was on ATL/CLE team could be signed by ATL/CLE during the offseason at 20% but I could receive a 30% discount if I tried to sign the same player...
Forget this entire thread because like I said I completely totally misunderstood a key part of the rules. Which made me confused and obviously a wee bit bitter.
Guys my apologies!
