I wish there was a way to see what the contract values were for every player and then sort them by position in our league. That way you could quickly see "Ok I should expect to pay X for this player if I feel he will fall in this area of this position's talent pool..."
Just a simple wish...

You should totally make a spreadsheet database of all the players in the league . I imagine it's actually less work than it sounds like though. It's getting as much functionality as you want that could take the real effort.

Shotgun not me.
I think it might be easier to do purely for free agent contracts signed. Keeping track of all the arb contracts would be a pile of work. A spreadsheet with some well-thought-out filterable/sortable headings could put together a reasonable archive of free agent salaries. You'd probably want to ignore the initial auction as that was a bit of an anomaly (backed up by some of the contracts arising from it).

I agree FA contracts only and we can ignore the initial auction...
Not it either

Sigh, maybe I'll get around to it at some point. Damn if my employers had any idea what I really got up to...

You mean hypothetically you would slack off if this was the case... Right?

OK, so thinking along the lines of... Player name
| Position
| 2nd Position
| 3rd Position
| Previous Salary | Previous Contract
| Year Signed
| Min Years?
|
| FA Salary
| Years
| Option?
| Tom Cruise
| LF
| CF
| RF
| $1.0 | 6th
| 2013
|
|
| $1.2
| 1
|
| Dick van Dyke
| C
|
|
| $4.3
| 2013
| 2013
| 3
|
| $4.7
| 3
| y
| Harry Carey
| SP
| RP
|
| $0.3
| 6th
| 2014
|
|
| $2.2
| 3
|
|
If this were done in an excel spreadsheet and posted as an attachment then it could be filterable on column headings. Thoughts/comments/suggestions?

Don't think 2nd and 3rd position will work out as these aren't usually recorded in FA
And I'll add if they were signed with a discount or not

Can the file be converted to use on Google spreadsheets?
Unfortunately, I don't have excel.
