Dbacks receive:
Carlos Rodon (White Sox) 1st 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodonca01.shtml?mobile=false
Nate Karns (Rays) 1st 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/karnsna01.shtml
Roberto Osuna (Jays) 1st 0.3 www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/osunaro01.shtml
Brewers receive:
Josh Donaldson 4th 2.5
Cap:
Dbacks -1.6
Brewers +1.6
I'm sure this looks crazy on the surface, and maybe it is, but it's an attempt to build my pitching up for a run in 2016. I've mostly dominated the batting cats over the last two seasons and was never really close to winning. While I can't replace Donaldson's elite production, I feel that I have a few guys that could be top 10 at 3B next season.
Rodon has Ace upside if he can harness his command/control a bit better. Karns doesn't have much upside but with the Rays ability to develop pitchers, I'm hoping they can get him to be slightly above league average as a starter. He could end up in the bullpen, at which point I'd be hoping for holds. Osuna is kind of a wild card. He would probably be most helpful to my team next season if he stays in the bullpen, supplying holds and possibly saves. He could still be tried as a starter.
This move also frees up some cap that can be used to add some pieces through FA. I may have traded away too much hitting at this point but that's the only way I was gonna be able to add some much needed pitching. I'm also getting younger pieces back with lots of control. So, I could always deal them in the future to get back some hitting, if need be.
Nice deal, Brewers.
