Houston Mets Trade:
SP James Paxton SEA 5th 3.5
Seattle Marlins Trade:
RP Edwin Diaz SEA 3rd 1.0
SS Adeiny Hechavarria TB 6th 1.0
C Chris Iannetta COL 2018 .4
3B Derek Dietrich MIA 6th 1.0 previously unprotected
cap change:
HOU: -.1
SEA: +1.1
Reasoning:
Paxton is obviously an elite arm, but I really like my return. I think Diaz is an elite reliever, and adding him to my stable will provide a lot of value for me. Diaz having two more years of control than Paxton is very useful. I also get 3 solid if unspectacular hitters to add to my depth. Hechevarria is a guy I've ben hyping up a lot this offseason, he really became a more aggressive hitter in Tampa Bay and had a .175 ISO in their uniform. His September was quietly unreal. His OBP will not be good, but I think he can hit around the 6 spot of their weakened lineup and finish with something like 15 home runs and 8 steals or so. A useful third string ss/utility player. Ianetta had a really good year last year and signed in Colorado, as a 4th catcher that is wonderful, especially with D'arnaud always being injured. Finally Dietrich is a guy I think will be sneaky good for the Fish, and I think will finish the year eligible at multiple positions, giving him a jack knife use to my team. I think 18 home runs with a .350 OBP and 150 r's+rbi's is in play for him. And I add this elite closer and depth all without adding any salary.
In conclusion, 4 years of an elite closer and 3 inexpensive depth pieces I think will be useful is worth 2 years of a top 25 starter to me. Thanks for the easy negotiations Bud, best of luck.
