an auction would take even longer than snake on email! so i don't think that's an option. the pre-ranking thing could work but I think it would work better for snake than for auction?
let's wait and see what the results of the doodle are anyway

If we are doing it on espn I don't mind setting up my team for auto draft. I will just preset the order that I would like my players picked. That way yall can work on a schedule that works best for yall

That way yall can work on a schedule that works best for yall I think this is probably the best solution if we cannot agree on a time. There are two people yet to complete the doodle - I'll review then.

OK, with one person yet to respond none of the 84 options given even have less than 2 'no's against them. I therefore suggest we scrap the auction idea for this year and go to the Autopick draft: games.espn.go.com/flb/resources/help/content?name=drafts-autopickThus enabling us to all to input into our draft without requiring us to be present at the same time. If anybody has any major objections please speak now, else I'll get this set up tomorrow afternoon.

OK, I've set up the league and sent out invites. I've tried to angle the settings to make it as low maintenance as possible. Notes on the settings: As was the favoured opinion, I've gone for H2H each category scoring. This means that each week there will be 10 points at stake per matchup. For ease I've gone for ESPN standard roster settings (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5x OF, U, 9x P, 3x Bench, DL). I'm not sure I see the point in messing with that. I prefer to leave the 9 pitchers spots undefined (ie not set to SP or RP) as this may allow for interesting strategy decisions in weekly lineups. Again for ease, I've gone for classic 5x5 scoring categories. I've set team names to be the reverse of our team names in this league (for example, instead of the Tampa Bay Rockies I will be the Colorado Devil Rays). East and West Divisions have been created using the geographical locations of these teams names. If people are massively against this then we can allow our own naming. I've set it to weekly lineups, locking on the first game of the week. Waivers have been set to 3 days and trade reviews have been set to 2 days since I don't think everyone will necessarily be logging in every day, and that seems a fair way to allow that without people missing out. I have set a transaction limit for the season to 50. Over the course of the season this is pretty much 2 pickups allowed per week. This is meant to be a casual-ish league, so this should avoid people from going crazy and streaming tonnes of pitchers or whatever. 4 teams will qualify for the playoffs, with 2 week matchups. I've elected not to use the last two weeks of the season since teams always mess with rosters and rotations and it seems daft for that to affect our championship game. This still means there are 19 regular season matchups. The draft will be an autopick draft. This means that the draft will be done automatically based on the rankings you select. If you do not change your rankings then the picks will be based on ESPN's default list. I suggest that you read the full details of this draft system which can be found here: games.espn.go.com/flb/resources/help/content?name=drafts-autopick With the draft on Sun 22nd March we have 10 or so days to amend our rankings, then a couple of weeks for trading since I'm sure that none of our drafts will go exactly how we would want them to. Draft order will be randomised one hour prior to the draft.

I'm not sure I see the point of the league now if it is a low maintenance league that we aren't even doing a live draft for.
It now just feels like we have a redraft purely for the sake of it which wasn't why this league was suggested I believe.

Well I'm open to suggestions, but the doodle results are there for all to see. Unless people are willing to be a bit more flexible with their availability a live draft is dead in the water.

I think its safe to say that a weekday is extremely hard to make work (unless it is friday evening for the US guys) but there is three weekends between now and then that there must be some common ground on. I have never used doodle before but I will try and set one up tonight so people can say what weekend days they definitely cannot do.
If Mark is back for Sunday the 5th of April would people be able to draft at say 8pm UK time so 1/2/3pm US time on that date?

sunday 29th 9pm UK time you have 8 people who could make it - why not do it then? I have already said i don't mind missing it, so maybe just check what scooter thinks as he is the other person who can't do it then?
also, are we still talking about an auction or have we switched to snake now? not sure how auctions work on autodraft?

My theory was we dont have any one day where 9 people can do so I was throwing out an alternative to see if we could get 10 then. Auctions I believe you can preset your draft values based on what I have read

I work that day, but if 8 of 10 league members can pull it off, then do so. I can autodraft, or who knows, maybe I can sneak some picks in on my phone around helping patients.

I'd like to do a live draft of course, but I thought the whole idea of this league was to be low-maintenance. Most everyone seemed to have a multitude of other commitments already.

I was happy with low maintenance but I'd like to look at the league at the end of the year and think I actually did something. I know there will be in season pick ups but I personally think I am out of this one if we are going to do an autodraft.

I'm not a huge autodraft fan either, I'd still do it, but if you can get a weekend set up Ben that would be great. The 5th of April has one regular season game, not sure if that matters. I haven't been in a regular league in forever.
